Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the "sacraments of Christian initiation," whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be  explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace.

For "by the sacrament of Confirmation, (the baptized) are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed."  Catechism of the Catholic Church 1258


Confirmation is a 3-year program that begins in the 9th grade.

St. Louis offers confirmation for students their Junior Year of High School. A student must attend at least 3 consecutive years of religious education prior to the reception of the sacraments of Confirmation: Two years of High School Catechesis and one year of Confirmation.

Every student preparing for the sacraments must bring an original baptismal certificate to the Faith Formation Office so it can be copied and filed. If you do not have a copy of your child's certificate please contact the rectory for a copy. Please note there will be a $5 charge for this service.

Below is a list for confirmation preparation:

• Attend Mass at least weekly.
• Participate regularly in the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist
• Attend Religious Ed classes as a Freshman, Sophomore and Junior
• Have 25 hours of some form of documented Christian service in the parish
• Pray regularly and attempt to show love for others
• Meet the requirements set forth by St. Louis to continue in the Confirmation Process
• Attend Confirmation retreat your Junior year.
• St. Louis requires a Biography of your chosen patron Saint. Deadline to be determined at the beginning of the year.
• Select Sponsor and turn in sponsor’s name and address. Each sponsor will be mailed a letter and sponsor application.
